Shakeology is a Blessing

There's something on my heart here that I need to share...... {sorry this is long}

I think everyone knows I'm a Beachbody coach at this point and I believe everyone knows this is how I support our family, but I didn't sign up as a coach because I was looking for a job or a way to make money. I didn't sign up as a coach because I wanted to support our family.

I've had people approach me to do other network marketing companies and their pitch is always about their fancy cars and business structure. Facts and details, money money money, blah blah blah, I DON'T CARE.  SURE, Beachbody has the best business structure I've EVER seen, but I didn't join because it's a generous strong business structure. I signed up as a coach because I was a customer drinking Shakeology daily and it CHANGED.MY.LIFE.


Once I started drinking Shakeology I broke through depression and a weight loss plateau, I was finally regular for the first time in my life! I no longer needed a daily afternoon nap with my kids! ‪#‎helloENERGY‬, my random cravings were gone, and I was able to replace all the vitamins I was taking to manage depression with this ONE daily dose of dense nutrition - Shakeology. For the first time in my LIFE I felt really, really, really good. I had no idea people could even feel that way! I didn't realize I could have that kind of daily energy and be mentally stable without medication or energy drinks.

Hands down, Shakeology changed my life.

For awhile I was fine being a lifelong customer and a hobby coach, but (this is where I get personal) I kid you not, I had a spiritual experience where I just KNEW God wanted me to share this with others. I knew that if God had placed something that could SO greatly benefit my life in front me, I OWED it to God to spread the good news and share that with others. It was such a personal spiritual experience that rocked me at my CORE.

I signed up knowing in my heart that Shakeology is a blessing that needs to be shared! I signed up knowing this is unlike ANY OTHER THING out there. I signed up knowing we have a God given body and we are SUPPOSED to take care of it. And not to get all preachy on you, but I feel SO strongly that this is a God thing. That's why I feel Shakeology is so important! I feel people are closer to God and hear the promptings of the spirit better when they take care of their body. 

In this day and age you can eat INCREDIBLY clean and STILL be deficit in the nutrients your body NEEDS. An apple today just isn't the same as an apple 50 years ago thanks to air and water quality changing. REAL FOOD supplementation is needed. Vitamins aren't absorbed into your body the same way. I'm sorry, but a green smoothie with 5-10 ingredients that you threw together is no comparison, it's a great idea and juicing is the most comparable thing to Shakeology, but you're STILL short changing your body of the nutrients your body needs.

If all I wanted to do was make money, there's lots of avenues for that. If all I wanted to do was help people, there's lots of avenues for that. If all I cared about was fitness, there's lots of avenues to get in a fitness routine, but NO WHERE ELSE can you get ANYTHING that compares to Shakeology. I feel like this message is VITAL for society today.  The community we create through online fitness challenge groups is unlike any other and something that adds so much value. I take great pride in that. 

When people join my groups I know their life will FOREVER be better if they take advantage of it.  So try and recruit me all you want to something you think I'll earn more money in- I DON'T CARE! Mock me all you want for posting daily on social media. I love you, but your approval is not needed! I'm doing this for God's approval not yours. Because this is a NEEDED message. We MUST take care of our bodies friends!

So I'll keep doing what I'm doing. I'll drink this shake every single day for the rest of my life because my body deserves good nutrition. Yep I value the body God gave me enough to do that. πŸ™ŒπŸΌ And I'll keep seeking out people who want to join my team because they share my motivations and they SEE the big picture going on here. And I'll keep doing this because I know in my GUT this is a message that the world deserves to hear.

Fitness + Nutrition + Support = Weightloss

I've always enjoyed working out. I trained for my first marathon in 2008 in order to get rid of the baby weight. It worked! I lost all of it! And I discovered a new passion. Running became my stress relief. 

Increasingly I have become worried about my health. My father has heart disease, diabetes, COPD, and renal failure. I have several chronic conditions as well. Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome, (which increases my chances of heart disease and diabetes) was discovered when I had trouble conceiving my second child. I've also developed chronic fatigue as a result of having Chronic Epstein Barr Virus and asthma. 

I continued running to stay in shape. The following years, it became increasingly difficult to lose weight or even maintain. I did not eat lean and my body adjusted. I became sort of "fitish" or "fat fit". In 2012, I completed P90x during an "off season. I absolutely fell in love. The next year I did several months of Crossfit during my off season. Still, I never could get lasting weight loss results due to poor eating habits. Since then, I've completed PiYo and loved it! And a round of 21 Day Fix Extreme. BUT, all without following the meal plan. The truth is, I'm an emotional eater. I eat when I'm stressed. 

I had foot and leg surgery last fall (lapidus bunionectomy and calf lengthening). It was the most painful thing I've ever endured. I also missed running so much during my recovery that I began to overeat. I subsequently put on 10 lbs. I eventually started running again. Short distances. Then I ordered Hammer and Chisel. Absolutely LOVE the workouts! I even got my hubby to do the full 8 weeks with me. STILL NO WEIGHT LOSS. 

Then I remember reaching out to JANICE BURKE and asking for meal plan help. I later joined her June Challenge Group. I was ALL IN. I was determined to get these pounds off and get the best body of my life. I've been using a combo of workouts from The Hammer and Chisel and 21 Day Fix Extreme. I've been following the MADE diet. THIS IS THE FIRST TIME I HAVE EVER CONQUERED SWEETS!!!! I'm delighted to say that I'm down 5.5 lbs and 8.5 inches. I finally learned how to control my portions and nourish my body! I plan to lose the rest of the weight and "press play" every day!

More than Weightloss: The Life-Changing Magic of Healthy Eating & Exercise

Today was such a rewarding day! As the end of the month transformation stories flood in I'm overwhelmed with emotions! 

I remember how amazing I felt after my first 30 days of taking better care of myself & it's just powerful seeing this group beam with pride! God gave me this gift, I needed a way to help & pay it all forward & 6 years later I still get to share stories like this with ALL OF you! Let me say it takes a lot of courage for my fit family to take photos let alone allow me to post them on social media! 

Vanessa Lowry is the perfect example of being inspired, And I know her story will help others too! This momma of twins is on fire! Vanessa Lowry I'm so proud of you πŸ’•



"Let me start off by saying I'm your average joe MOMMA! I run a household by myself while working forty hours a week and entertain twins and a fur baby.

Before I had my sons, I had always been into sports and was pretty athletic. Let me say nutrition was lost on me. I knew it was somewhat important but never had time for it. It was always time for fast food. 
   
Fast forward a few years and here I was doing nothing. Just eating what I wanted and not really doing anything. I maintained weight at 135 pounds. That's just the weight my body seemed to like. However I didn't like the way it was distributing itself across my body. I was sooooo not liking the "muffin" top. I was so moody and just unhealthy on the inside. And yet I had ZERO motivation or accountability to change myself.
   
I would go through cycles of working out for a few days and then just quitting. Plain out giving up. I didn't care! 
   
When I started working for Transit (driving 40 and 60 foot vehicles), I was so tiny compared to the vast majority of the employees. I had such a hard time getting my uniforms. I was a size 6. I started not sleeping due to bad dreams. My moods got worse. Over all I didn't want to end up like every other driver who told me how much they gained while doing this job. That was just unfair to myself and to my boys. MY BOYS who are my everything. I knew I needed a change.
  
I contacted my friend/mentor who I had watched for 6 plus years change her life. I told her I was ready to commit and change my life. I told her that I needed to ease in and not dive. If I dove in I knew I would fail and give up and be stuck in the cycle all over again. I told her my only goals were to regulate my moods and just feel healthy again.
   
Through a program that was only 30 minutes long for 21 days, an eating plan consisting of portion control, and an awesome shake, I had a breakthrough. I gained so much more than what I could imagine. I lost 10 pounds and more than 5 inches. My moods have changed and I got a whole night's sleep. The benefits are insurmountable.
   
With how I felt and seeing a lot of my everyday customers with a liter of soda in their hands, I know I want to be able to benefit someone else like I have done for myself. I want to be able to give the benefits of nutrition and exercise."

How Helping Others Changed my Life

I'm going to get deep and personal here, so if you don't like real and honesty this post isn't for you.




Let's revisit May 2014.. I had just came out of the closet with my Insanity transformation story.. You know the infomercial that is always playing on your TV? Yeah, that one.

I was pretty much known as "The Insanity Girl" It was already know by my friends & family that I was doing the program so every time I came across one of those people I inspired, I'd get asked.. "How is Insanity?" πŸ™ˆ I would respond.. "Good," but in my mind I would cringe because I knew I wasn't on track. πŸ˜‘

If you ask my friend Eugenia she will be proof of my story. I had even gathered up some girls, Janetzi can testify & a few other because I felt having them around doing what I was doing would help me & them stay on track with our health and fitness goals. I wanted soo bad to lose that weight. It was all I could think off, (I now know it was more than weight, it was insecurities, being self-conscious, hiding under jeans that I NEEDED to overcome).

I had met a coach online around 2008 when I had a hobby of reaching out to others, ha! I had no idea what coaching was! She stayed on my social media platforms motivating me, commenting on every post, encouraging me and checking in on me every-so-often. She would even comment things like "You'd make such a great coach"😳

I would smile and but say to myself, "Not yet, I'm not ready" and comment back saying "aww you're so sweet!" I now understand she saw far beyond what I could see at that moment. She saw passion, potential, HEART ❤️ & believed in me when I didn't even believe in myself. (That's what a coach does.)

Back to my Insanity Victory Post... My coach reached out to me to celebrate my success asking if I'd consider coaching. People were already asking what I was doing & in my mind I was just going to work it as a referral basis, but she encouraged I at least give it a try because I deserved it. I worked hard & had a ❤️ for helping others.

I said yes & ever since then it's been such an AMAZING & rewarding journey. I not only changed my body, rid myself of depression, gained some amazing confidence, helped over 50+ people, but have created a second source of income that I know in time will only pay off & help me create the live I've always dreamed of, a life of FREEDOM. ✨

I know what it's like to not feel comfortable in your body.  I know what it's like to look at the mirror & feel like you've got so much work to do, I know what it's like to feel ashamed to cross my legs because I feel "fat." I know what it's like to hide behind baggy shirts & black clothing & never take time to take care of myself.

You see, coaching is my accountability. I know I have to stay on track with my journey since others are counting on me, following me, inspired by me. It makes me want to get up & be better & make more progress. I didn't have 'the perfect body' before I started, I just had a burning passion to help others.

The Big Leap that Paid Off Big Time

I gotta share this "long winded" story with you so you know just how thankful I truly AMπŸ’•

When I grew up my parents both worked my dad worked A LOT😳I hated not getting to see him.  I remember in 6th grade I said "if I have kids I want to be able to go have lunch with my kids, go to all their games, never miss a school event!"

I remember starting to feel unloved, my parents never attended any event, program, games... now that I'm older I know it had nothing to do with love, it had everything to do with freedom! They didn't have ANYπŸ˜” I should of been thankful instead of complaining, at least he could afford to put me into sports😳

I humbly know how blessed I am to stay home & raise my kids ever since they were bornπŸ’™... that almost came to a halt!

Three years ago my husband & I had to make a choice...either make some major sacrifices to keep me home or I would have to go back to work. It didn't take long to realize that I didn't have the experience to get a GREAT paying job & we couldn't afford childcare on what other people thought my time was worth, so we tried to find something where I could be home when he was at work & then I could go to work when he got home 😳 That thought was squashed QUICK!  We married each other to be a FAMILY! Not single parents or roommates!

After a lot of praying, worrying, & second guessing myself. Chris supported & pushed me to stay home & take my love for fitness seriously. I knew I wouldn't make a ton of money right away with my online business, it takes time, consistency & discipline to start a business... but I loved it. It's easy to apply yourself when you know the company is legit & making a difference in your own life. 

I also started teaching as many fitness classes as I could, I only got paid $20 a class, so a few classes a week wouldn't even cover my instructor fees lol, but it helped. I could take the boys with me or teach while they were in school and I LOVED TEACHING! 

I quickly realized my body couldn't keep up with that many classes & I slowly cut back my classes & increased the hours I worked on my online business. It's been LESS than 3 years. I get paid way more than anyone else could pay me! I work when I want & with who I want & the best part is I get to change LIVES!

(Thank goodness, because Chris' golf career didn't pay as well as we had thought ...YET😜)

It isn't the "traditional" way, but it is a WAY better way for us!  We still have our mattresses on the floor & live in an overpriced apartment, but I wouldn't go back & change a THING!

God has blessed us every step of the way... I know he will continue to! Even through a tiny time of being homeless; I never doubted our decision to put our priorities first!

I'm blessed with two amazing boys & a STRONG marriage & a career that I love that allows me to fulfill my childhood dream of being present in my kids lives!

SO THE REAL THANK YOU GOES OUT TO MY TEAM & ALL MY AMAZING CLIENTS!

PINEAPPLE CHICKEN SKEWERS

SERVES: 4 (2 skewers each) Prep Time: 20 min. Cooking Time: 10 min. CONTAINER EQUIVALENTS (per serving): ½ green ½ purple 1 red


Ingredients:
  • 8 bamboo skewers 
  • 1 lb. raw chicken breast, boneless, skinless, cut into 16 1-inch pieces 
  • ¼ cup reduced-sodium tamari soy sauce, gluten-free 
  • 2 tsp. sesame oil 
  • 2 tsp. grated fresh ginger 
  • 1 (8-oz.) can pineapple chunks in juice, drained 
  • 1 medium red bell pepper, cut into 16 1-inch chunks 
  • ½ large red onion, cut into 16 1-inch chunks


Directions:
  1. Soak bamboo skewers in water for 30 minutes. 
  2. Place chicken in resealable plastic bag (or container); add soy sauce, oil, and ginger; seal bag and shake gently to mix. Refrigerate at least 30 minutes to marinate. 
  3. Preheat gas or charcoal grill on medium heat. 
  4. Place a piece of chicken, pineapple chunk, bell pepper, and onion onto a skewer. Repeat, so the skewer has two pieces of each ingredient. Repeat with seven remaining skewers. Discard marinade that contained chicken. 
  5. Grill skewers on covered grill for 4 to 5 minutes on each side, or until chicken is no longer pink in the middle. 
  6. Serve immediately

How to Stay Cool During Summer Workouts

Working out in the summer heat can be a miserable, sweat-soaked endeavor. As much as you don’t want to slack off, let’s be real—when it’s a bazillion degrees with 8,000% humidity, just lying on your couch in your air-conditioned living room starts to look reeeeeally tempting. But with the proper preparation, you can keep your workout going strong throughout the dog days of summer. Here’s how to weatherproof your workout.


1. Get the Timing Right

Blazing sun isn’t going to do you any favors, so if you are going to exercise outside (or if you don’t have air-conditioning), schedule your workout for early morning or late evening. “It’s ideal to work out before or after the heat index rises,” says Elizabeth Kovar, an ACE Master Trainer and mind-body movement specialist. “If your schedule doesn’t allow you to work out during those hours, play it safe by working out indoors.”


2. Stay Hydrated

Okay, so I royally screwed this one up a few weeks ago. On the first day of a nasty heat wave, I went for an early-morning run while it was still “only” 86 degrees out. Minor tactical error: I only drank half a glass of water when I woke up. I spent the rest of the day on the couch nursing a splitting headache, achy muscles, and wicked nausea. Oops. “Guidelines recommend consuming 17–20 ounces of water two hours before exercise, 7–10 ounces of fluid every ten minutes during exercise, and 16–24 ounces for every pound of body weight lost after exercise,” says Jessica Matthews, MS, an exercise physiologist for the American Council on Exercise. If you’re working out for an hour or more, you may also want to replace electrolytes with Results and Recovery Formula or coconut water.


3. Eat to Beat the Heat

Excuse all the rhyming, but it really is important to eat properly before a summer workout, since the wrong foods can boost your body temperature. “Avoid spicy foods, which stimulate heat production,” Kovar says. “Also, high-protein foods and anything greasy will be harder to digest, thus enhancing internal heat production.” Stick with easy-to-digest foods like fruit, eggs, or yogurt instead.


4. Dress the Part

This one’s really easy. “Lightweight, loose-fitting, minimal clothing can provide a greater skin surface area for heat dissipation,” Matthews says. Black may be slimming, but wear light colors to reflect the heat from the sun, and choose moisture-wicking fabrics to stay cool and dry.


5. Scale Back

On crazy-hot days, you may need to change your “go hard or go home” philosophy to “go easy or go inside.” If you’re acclimated to hot weather, then you may be able to tolerate a tough workout in extreme heat. But if you live in an area where three-digit temps make headlines, scale back when a heat wave hits. “Anything lower intensity or steady state is probably more achievable mentally or physically,” Kovar says. If you’re planning on doing high-intensity interval training, she adds, “Try to find a shaded area or take the training indoors.”


6. Heed the Warning Signs

Heat exhaustion isn’t a push-through-the-pain situation. Unchecked, it can lead to coma or death—so if you start to feel crampy, dizzy, or nauseous, stop immediately and start doing damage control. “Drink plenty of water and remove any unnecessary clothing,” Matthews says. “You can also mist your skin with water to bring your body temperature down.” If your skin is hot but not sweaty, or your pulse feels fast and weak, those are signs of heatstroke. “Call 911 and get cool any way that you can until help arrives,” Matthews says. Anytime the heat index is over 90 degrees, you’re at risk for heat exhaustion; over 105 degrees, it’s almost a given.2 So play it safe—if you know you can’t handle the heat, head indoors.

What is PiYo?

What is PiYo? Have you ever heard of PiYo? It's a high intensity, low-impact workout that uses moves from Pilates and Yoga.  It increases flexibility, strength, and cardiovascular health without straining your joints.  


PiYo is fun, will work your body in a completely different way, and leave you feeling rejuvenated.  Team Tenacity and those we coach love PiYo and we think you might too!

Coach Janice Burke teaches live PiYo classes and runs challenge groups with the team for those doing the at-home workouts. She is able to help challengers with their form and answer questions on how to do specific moves.


Do men do PiYo? Yes! Meet Paul, husband of Coach Nicole Rhien! He lost 2 inches around his waist in only 30 days of PiYo!


Do you have to be young to do PiYo? No! Almost all the participants in the videos, including the creator Chalene Johnson, are in their mid-40s.  Since PiYo is a low-impact workout it's perfect for those who have concerns about their joints, need to increase muscle tone, and flexibility.



Coach Tiffany Cortez started her PiYo challenge on June 30 and finished August 23, 2014. 



Tiffany was able to lose 7 lbs and 8 total inches! She didn't think she would lose any since she was already at her pre-pregnancy weight :) She loved the support she got from her challenge group so much that she decided to become a coach before she finished her 60 day challenge to help others have the same life changing experience she had.
