Dancing to Lose Weight!

We had our family pictures taken not too long ago and I wore a ruffly shirt to hide the belly that refused to be hidden. Well, I will use it as an example so you can see this was literally a few months of transformation. 18 lbs so far!

So, I've never endorsed a weight loss product. I've tried the belly fat pill, over the counter shakes guaranteed to curve your appetite, another pill that made me want to kill my children after a few days of taking it, weight watchers, starving myself etc., but, I think I'm ready to stand behind a product. I've been starting my day for the past few months with Shakeology. 

At first, I didn't even try to exercise because I'll be honest, I had little hope it would actually work. After a few days of just drinking the shake in the morning, I found myself looking for things to do, gardening outside, scrubbing, cleaning the house more proficiently. Then it came to a point that I needed a way to work out the energy, so I popped in the Beachbody video Cize, that came with my beginners package, and it was actually fun! I was dancing and losing weight. Anyway, I won't make this post an infomercial but I want you to know, if you've ever thought about trying it, let me know, maybe I can help you on your journey.

I feel better, I look better, and I'm not gonna stop now!!

Fitness + Nutrition + Support = Weightloss

I've always enjoyed working out. I trained for my first marathon in 2008 in order to get rid of the baby weight. It worked! I lost all of it! And I discovered a new passion. Running became my stress relief. 

Increasingly I have become worried about my health. My father has heart disease, diabetes, COPD, and renal failure. I have several chronic conditions as well. Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome, (which increases my chances of heart disease and diabetes) was discovered when I had trouble conceiving my second child. I've also developed chronic fatigue as a result of having Chronic Epstein Barr Virus and asthma. 

I continued running to stay in shape. The following years, it became increasingly difficult to lose weight or even maintain. I did not eat lean and my body adjusted. I became sort of "fitish" or "fat fit". In 2012, I completed P90x during an "off season. I absolutely fell in love. The next year I did several months of Crossfit during my off season. Still, I never could get lasting weight loss results due to poor eating habits. Since then, I've completed PiYo and loved it! And a round of 21 Day Fix Extreme. BUT, all without following the meal plan. The truth is, I'm an emotional eater. I eat when I'm stressed. 

I had foot and leg surgery last fall (lapidus bunionectomy and calf lengthening). It was the most painful thing I've ever endured. I also missed running so much during my recovery that I began to overeat. I subsequently put on 10 lbs. I eventually started running again. Short distances. Then I ordered Hammer and Chisel. Absolutely LOVE the workouts! I even got my hubby to do the full 8 weeks with me. STILL NO WEIGHT LOSS. 

Then I remember reaching out to JANICE BURKE and asking for meal plan help. I later joined her June Challenge Group. I was ALL IN. I was determined to get these pounds off and get the best body of my life. I've been using a combo of workouts from The Hammer and Chisel and 21 Day Fix Extreme. I've been following the MADE diet. THIS IS THE FIRST TIME I HAVE EVER CONQUERED SWEETS!!!! I'm delighted to say that I'm down 5.5 lbs and 8.5 inches. I finally learned how to control my portions and nourish my body! I plan to lose the rest of the weight and "press play" every day!

Fit Recipe of the month: Peanut Butter Banana and Berry toast

Here is a simple, delicious snack recipe for Monday :)

Peanut Butter Banana and Berry toast

Peanut Butter Banana and Berry Toast

Total Time: 15 min.
Prep Time: 15 min.
Cooking Time: None
Yield: 1 slice
Ingredients:
2 tsp. all-natural almond butter
1 slice whole grain bread, toasted
11 fresh blueberries
12 fresh raspberries
¼ medium banana, cut in half lengthwise, cut into ½-inch slices
Preparation:
1. Spread almond butter evenly on toast.
2. To create a fruit flag, place five raspberries in a line parallel to the bottom of bread.
3. Place banana slices above raspberries.
4. Repeat with raspberries.
5. Place one banana slice on right side above raspberries.
6. Place two raspberries above banana slice.
7. Place one banana slice above raspberries.
8. Create a square of blueberries on the upper left corner. Serve.

Today was such a rewarding day! As the end of the month transformation stories flood in I'm overwhelmed with emotions! 

I remember how amazing I felt after my first 30 days of taking better care of myself & it's just powerful seeing this group beam with pride! God gave me this gift, I needed a way to help & pay it all forward & 6 years later I still get to share stories like this with ALL OF you! Let me say it takes a lot of courage for my fit family to take photos let alone allow me to post them on social media! 

Vanessa Lowry is the perfect example of being inspired, And I know her story will help others too! This momma of twins is on fire! Vanessa Lowry I'm so proud of you 💕



"Let me start off by saying I'm your average joe MOMMA! I run a household by myself while working forty hours a week and entertain twins and a fur baby.

Before I had my sons, I had always been into sports and was pretty athletic. Let me say nutrition was lost on me. I knew it was somewhat important but never had time for it. It was always time for fast food. 
   
Fast forward a few years and here I was doing nothing. Just eating what I wanted and not really doing anything. I maintained weight at 135 pounds. That's just the weight my body seemed to like. However I didn't like the way it was distributing itself across my body. I was sooooo not liking the "muffin" top. I was so moody and just unhealthy on the inside. And yet I had ZERO motivation or accountability to change myself.
   
I would go through cycles of working out for a few days and then just quitting. Plain out giving up. I didn't care! 
   
When I started working for Transit (driving 40 and 60 foot vehicles), I was so tiny compared to the vast majority of the employees. I had such a hard time getting my uniforms. I was a size 6. I started not sleeping due to bad dreams. My moods got worse. Over all I didn't want to end up like every other driver who told me how much they gained while doing this job. That was just unfair to myself and to my boys. MY BOYS who are my everything. I knew I needed a change.
  
I contacted my friend/mentor who I had watched for 6 plus years change her life. I told her I was ready to commit and change my life. I told her that I needed to ease in and not dive. If I dove in I knew I would fail and give up and be stuck in the cycle all over again. I told her my only goals were to regulate my moods and just feel healthy again.
   
Through a program that was only 30 minutes long for 21 days, an eating plan consisting of portion control, and an awesome shake, I had a breakthrough. I gained so much more than what I could imagine. I lost 10 pounds and more than 5 inches. My moods have changed and I got a whole night's sleep. The benefits are insurmountable.
   
With how I felt and seeing a lot of my everyday customers with a liter of soda in their hands, I know I want to be able to benefit someone else like I have done for myself. I want to be able to give the benefits of nutrition and exercise."

How Helping Others Changed my Life

I'm going to get deep and personal here, so if you don't like real and honesty this post isn't for you.




Let's revisit May 2014.. I had just came out of the closet with my Insanity transformation story.. You know the infomercial that is always playing on your TV? Yeah, that one.

I was pretty much known as "The Insanity Girl" It was already know by my friends & family that I was doing the program so every time I came across one of those people I inspired, I'd get asked.. "How is Insanity?" 🙈 I would respond.. "Good," but in my mind I would cringe because I knew I wasn't on track. 😑

If you ask my friend Eugenia she will be proof of my story. I had even gathered up some girls, Janetzi can testify & a few other because I felt having them around doing what I was doing would help me & them stay on track with our health and fitness goals. I wanted soo bad to lose that weight. It was all I could think off, (I now know it was more than weight, it was insecurities, being self-conscious, hiding under jeans that I NEEDED to overcome).

I had met a coach online around 2008 when I had a hobby of reaching out to others, ha! I had no idea what coaching was! She stayed on my social media platforms motivating me, commenting on every post, encouraging me and checking in on me every-so-often. She would even comment things like "You'd make such a great coach"😳

I would smile and but say to myself, "Not yet, I'm not ready" and comment back saying "aww you're so sweet!" I now understand she saw far beyond what I could see at that moment. She saw passion, potential, HEART ❤️ & believed in me when I didn't even believe in myself. (That's what a coach does.)

Back to my Insanity Victory Post... My coach reached out to me to celebrate my success asking if I'd consider coaching. People were already asking what I was doing & in my mind I was just going to work it as a referral basis, but she encouraged I at least give it a try because I deserved it. I worked hard & had a ❤️ for helping others.

I said yes & ever since then it's been such an AMAZING & rewarding journey. I not only changed my body, rid myself of depression, gained some amazing confidence, helped over 50+ people, but have created a second source of income that I know in time will only pay off & help me create the live I've always dreamed of, a life of FREEDOM. ✨

I know what it's like to not feel comfortable in your body.  I know what it's like to look at the mirror & feel like you've got so much work to do, I know what it's like to feel ashamed to cross my legs because I feel "fat." I know what it's like to hide behind baggy shirts & black clothing & never take time to take care of myself.

You see, coaching is my accountability. I know I have to stay on track with my journey since others are counting on me, following me, inspired by me. It makes me want to get up & be better & make more progress. I didn't have 'the perfect body' before I started, I just had a burning passion to help others.

21 Day Fix Challenge Group Transformation:

Meet our own Jacquelyn Davis from Team Tenacity!  She has had an incredible transformation, not only in all the weight she has lost but in her quality of life!  Jacquelyn is disabled and has suffered with anxiety/panic attacks; back, arm, and leg pain; hot flashes; and bowel issues.  

During the two rounds of the 21 Day Fix (only six weeks!) she completed; she completely changed her diet, started working out, and drinking Shakeology. Monthly Recipe: 

Here is an easy, healthy snack with four different seasoning options! Careful!  They're addictive :)

4 Ways to Make Roasted Chickpeas
From Coach Tiffany's blog Making Dinner Fit 
Serves 8 


Ingredients:
  • 2 cans chickpeas (Garbanzo beans)
  • 1/2 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 tablespoon honey
  • 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/8 teaspoon nutmeg
  • 1/8 teaspoon sea salt
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon Spanish smoked paprika
  • 1 teaspoon ground cumin
  • Pinch cayenne pepper, or to taste
  • Kosher salt
  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 tsp minced garlic
  • 1/2 tsp sea salt
  • Fresh ground black pepper, to taste
  • 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon curry powder
  • 1 teaspoon garam masala
  • ¼ teaspoon garlic powder
  • ⅛ teaspoon white pepper
  • ½ teaspoon sea salt
Directions:
  1. Wash chickpeas and lay them out flat on a paper towel to dry.  Try and get them as dry as possible.
  2. Line a cookie sheet with foil and lay chickpeas out in a single layer.
  3. Place in a cold oven and start to preheat to 475 degrees.
  4. Mix up your spices of choice into a bowl.
  5. When the oven is preheated (or after 15 minutes) take the chickpeas out and coat in the bowl the seasonings of your choice. Return to the pan in one layer.
  6. Return to the oven and bake for another 20-30 minutes, stirring half way.
  7. Turn off the oven and let them cool with the oven door open slightly. This makes them extra crunchy :)




12 Superfoods to Eat When You’re Stessed

It’s 8:30 pm on a Tuesday and you’re stuck at the office. You want to go out and get food, but the pile of work and a looming deadline in front of you says otherwise. It’s times like this when unhealthy snacks–from the corner store or the vending machine–feel like a way to deal with the added pressure around you. But there are some foods you could eat to help you feel less stressed–many of which are easy, portable snacks.

According to an article published yesterday on CNN.com, some foods are better equipped at helping you deal with stress. The 12 “superfoods” they featured were found to lower stress not only in the moment, but may help your body to cope with stress better in the future.

Eating more green leafy vegetables, for instance, was found to help lower depressive symptoms in older adults and college students were happier and calmer after consuming vegetables.

Another superfood, cashews, can help reduce stress in two ways. First, the nuts have a high concentration of zinc, a deficiency of which may be linked to mood disorders such as depression and anxiety. Secondly, cashews contain plenty of magnesium, which relaxes nerves by balancing calcium (which, in turn, activates nerves). Many experts believe eating the right amount of magnesium can also help you sleep better at night.

And, everyone’s favorite, dark chocolate, also made the list for its ability to help increase serotonin and endorphin levels in your brain (in moderation, of course). If chocolate alone wasn’t enough to dispel your darkest cravings, why not pair it with yogurt? Some evidence has shown consumption of probiotics found in yogurt actually decreased the emotional response to certain activities (such as stress). In other studies, probiotics has been known to alter the chemicals in the brain that cause anxiety and depression.

What is the 21 Day Fix?

The 21 Day Fix has been a game changer for so many people because it's so simple and so effective.

The nutrition plan is the biggest difference.  The program comes with six different sized colored containers and the eating guide includes lists of approved food for each food group. 



You determine how many of each container you get each day by calculating your daily calorie intake. So if you weigh 135 lbs you would be in the 1200-1499 bracket and would eat three servings of vegetables, two servings of fruit, four servings of protein, etc. everyday.  The teaspoon at the end is for nutbutters and oil.


The nutrition plan not only helps you get the right portions of each food, but it also includes small cheats! You can trade out a three servings of yellow containers for small treats like chocolate chips per week.  There are recipes in the eating plan for other treats.  This plan is not a diet, but a new way of eating!



The workouts are simple enough that someone just getting into (or back into) fitness can do them, but they are not easy!  They are very effective. 

You will receive eight workouts, one for each day of the week and a bonus workout for purchasing through a coach.  There are two cardio workouts, three toning workouts, and two working rest workouts: pilates and yoga.

Can I do the 21 Day Fix if I don't have a lot of time? Coach Nicole Rhien is a busy mom of four little ones and she completed her first round of the 21 Day Fix in October 2014.  Her results were amazing!  She is a great example of what you can do with determination and consistency.

Coach Jillian Myers has done three rounds of the 21 Day Fix and has changed her family's eating habits with what she has learned from the 21 Day Fix.



How do I eat after I have reached my goal weight? If you are already at your goal weight, but know you need to eat healthier, you can calculate your calories so you are maintaining your weight and use the containers as normal.  You can also use the containers if you need to increase your weight just by calculating your calories differently.

Coach Brittany Grimes just finished the 21 Day Fix and also had great results in only 21 days.  The nutrition plan makes it easy to stick to it long term so no more yo-yo dieting!



Will you see results if you have already started your fitness journey? Coach Tiffany Cortez did the 21 Day Fix in October 2014 and even though she had been working out and eating well for three months she still had great results! No matter where you are on your health and fitness journey this is a great program to do to get you over your plateau or help you get your nutrition in line.

Transformation | 21 Day Fix: Ashton Bedewig

Today's transformation story comes from Ashton Bedewig who participated in our 21 Day Fix challenge group in March!  Read her inspirational story and let us know if you can relate :)

April 1st, 2015 



My name is Ashton Budewig, from San Angelo, TX.  I am a single mother of a seven-year-old.  I work six days a week and was exhausted from work and had no energy, or desire to better myself when I got home from a 11 hr day.  I would resort to automatically drinking 4-5 beers or 2-3 glasses of wine (big glasses) a night to relax, but also to calm the pain from my scoliosis that has been flaring up bad for the past two years.  

I noticed that I wasn't happy with how my body was changing at all.  It's bad when your own son notices and tells you that you are getting fat, but also customers were saying that I was getting hefty.  I am normally very worried about how I look.  I got to the point of accepting that when my other half told me I looked good with "meat on my bones" that I did, but I really didn't.  

I was very mad and unhappy with myself, I needed change.  I went from a size 1 or 2 and small shirts, to 5’s and 7’s and medium/large shirts.  Not happy! I tried It Works! Wraps, tried weight loss pills, tried the shakes, trust me I've tried it all. IT DIDN’T WORK! 

Then one day my coach, Janice, was on Facebook and had mentioned the 21 Day Fix to me.  Never once did she pressure me or anything like that, she simply said if I want a healthier lifestyle and noticeable changes, I should look up the 21 Day Fix program.  

I went out on a limb, and spent the money for it, and slowly waited for my package to come in. Finally it came in and I couldn't have been happier.  I got negative feedback from my other half “You just wasted all that money on something stupid, when I can show you how to lose it”, immediately I was doubtful, but still determined.  

I planned, shopped, and prepped, all with the help of our challenge group.  Every day since March 9, 2015, we talked as a group daily and showed pictures on Facebook of our meals, our SHAKEOLOGY, and our progress. Shakeology was amazing tasting and so easy for me to have at work.   We had the ability to speak our minds and say things that we normally would have been judged about, but with the support of our group and coaches, we made it through.  

I got extremely stronger quick, started seeing results, and I went from one workout a day to two workouts a day.  After 21 days I couldn't believe the change.  I lost a total of 20 lbs, and approximately 17 inches, and couldn't be more happier. I even have to wear a belt with my size 1 pants now.  

To top it off, I no longer have back pain because of the workouts.  My scoliosis surgeon even stated that the workouts on the 21 Day Fix are exactly what I need to continue to be doing for the pain, because surgery wouldn't help with the pain level.   

I am now a Beachbody member for life no matter how hard the bills can get.  I am officially done with the 21 Day Fix, but now have a healthier eating lifestyle and daily routine, and look forward to working out after work every day! I thank my coach for all of the support and encouragement daily, without her I wouldn't be where I am now.  

This program works, but not without DETERMINATION and Drive! You can do ANYTHING you set your mind too, if you want it.
